Sobre el Año de la Luz
El Año Internacional de la Luz es una iniciativa global que pondrá de manifiesto a los ciudadanos del mundo la importancia de la luz y las tecnologías ópticas en sus vidas, para su futuro y para el desarrollo de la sociedad. Es una oportunidad única para inspirar, educar y conectarse dentro del ámbito global.

El 20 de diciembre de 2013, la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), en su 68ª Sesión, declaró el año 2015 como el Año Internacional de la Luz y de las tecnologías basadas en la luz.
Este Año Internacional ha sido iniciativa de un gran consorcio de organismos científicos, junto con la UNESCO, y reunirá a muchos actores diferentes que incluye a: las sociedades científicas, los sindicatos, las instituciones educativas, las plataformas tecnológicas, las organizaciones sin fines de lucro (ONG) y los socios del sector privado.
Al declarar un Año Internacional centrado en el tema de la ciencia de la luz y sus aplicaciones, las Naciones Unidas han reconocido la importancia de aumentar la conciencia mundial sobre cómo las tecnologías basadas en la luz promueven el desarrollo sostenible y dan soluciones a los problemas mundiales de la energía, la educación, la agricultura y la salud.
La luz juega un papel vital en nuestra vida cotidiana y es una disciplina transversal imperativa dentro del esquema de la ciencia del siglo 21.
La luz ha revolucionado la medicina, amplió el acceso a la comunicación internacional a través de Internet, y sigue siendo fundamental para la vinculación de los aspectos culturales, económicos y políticos de la sociedad global actual.

About the Year of Light
The International Year of Light is a global initiative which will highlight to the citizens of the world the importance of light and optical technologies in their lives, for their futures, and for the development of society. It is an unique opportunity to inspire, educate, and connect on a global scale.

On 20 December 2013, The United Nations (UN) General Assembly 68th Session proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (IYL 2015).
This International Year has been the initiative of a large consortium of scientific bodies together with UNESCO, and will bring together many different stakeholders including scientific societies and unions, educational institutions, technology platforms, non-profit organizations and private sector partners.
In proclaiming an International Year focusing on the topic of light science and its applications, the United Nations has recognized the importance of raising global awareness about how light-based technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health.
Light plays a vital role in our daily lives and is an imperative cross-cutting discipline of science in the 21st century.
It has revolutionized medicine, opened up international communication via the Internet, and continues to be central to linking cultural, economic and political aspects of the global society.
